3 Unexpected Places for Wedding Flowers
If you’ve started wedding planning, you may already have a vision for your dream bouquet, ceremony arch, or centrepieces. But did you know there are plenty more places to incorporate wedding flowers? As a Waterloo-based floral designer for weddings and events, I love creating artful arrangements for unexpected places. Thinking beyond the tablescapes is a great place to begin if a uniquely designed wedding is your goal! Here are a few of my favourite, often-overlooked spots to incorporate fresh blooms (because, let’s be honest, you can never have too many!).
Unexpected Places for Wedding Flowers
Hanging Arrangements
I love when wedding flowers draw the eye upward. Instead of containing all the florals to the tables, consider hanging arrangements above the dance floor, sweetheart table, or even the ceremony space. This design tip is especially impactful if your venue’s ceiling has a unique feature, such as a dome, skylight, or reclaimed beams. It creates a dramatic moment your guests won’t forget while making use of space many couples don’t think to decorate.
Individual Place Settings
There’s nothing sweeter than a fresh, fragrant flower awaiting you at your seat. I like to think of this as my wedding signature, since I often surprise my couples with flowers on their plates. It’s a great way to add something extra to the sweetheart table (and celebrate the guests of honour!). However, you could take it a step further and treat each guest to a floral favour at their place setting. Menus, escort cards, or napkins are all wonderful spots for a flower to rest atop.
Photo Corner
While you’ll undoubtedly get photos in front of your ceremony flowers, designating a photo corner in the reception space is a great way to enhance your portraits and the guest experience. The best backdrop for photos? A beautiful floral installation, of course! I loved how the photo corner at this wedding used flowers and draping in contrasting pink and emerald tones to create a truly striking background.
When you're thinking about how to make your wedding stand out, don’t overlook your wedding flowers! Using them in unexpected places brings an extra dose of joy and whimsy to any celebration. If you’re planning an Ontario wedding, I’d love to discuss how we might do this at your specific venue. Tell me a bit about the event you’re putting together, and I’ll be in touch!
